hunt in the pleistocene
written April 2024
summary: a hunt told from the perspective of a hunter-gatherer. one of my better attempts to capture voice in poetry.

Beyond furthest grass We venture See antler-doe foot-pressing Two dot, two crescent, hugging In clay, moving to tree-line. Follow foot-pressing And crushed grass And fallen leaf from bush. See brown dropping, fresh. Creature in distance. Spear. Blood. Stag give cry, then fall. We pray. And gut belly, Undress meat, Cut and skewer, Bring out flame from tree-skin, Fire lick meat and we swallow.
